E-Harmony

Friend: "Hey Priscilla, since John and I broke up I'm seeing 3 guys already! I'm so excited."

Me: "What? Girl you are crazy! How did you find 3 men that fast?"

Friend: "I joined e-harmony. One is a firefighter, the second guy is a lawyer and the other just graduated from Berkly."

Ok, so if my girl-friend can find men like that on E-harmony then maybe there's hope for me. Yah I got suckered into it like that ::SNAP:: joined e-harmony for $60 (ugh.. more money being spent). Well I joined, and now I have so many men requesting me because apparently my profile 'matched' every TOM, DICK AND HARRY- Men, that I'm so not interested in.

My matches were: 1) I live with my mom... 2) I like to travel and eat...3) I play video games..
WTF!! Seriously, does my personality match up with these kind of guys?! If that's the case then I'm doomed! hahaha

Suprisingly though there was one man, ONE MAN, out of 300 guys who looked normal enough to maybe have a conversation with... This E-harmony business isn't for me, but being that I paid for it, I might as well have my laughs! ;)

Just thought I'd share... this won't be the last!

Taking a Walk...

Since I've been in the field of Human Services/Counseling I have always had the desire to help others in need. Two internships that I've had, I facilitated and directed groups in a therapeutic way. My heart was on my sleeve just ready to listen to everybody's story and allow myself to empathize with each individual. By asking questions and being curious allowed group members to open up and just let out all that was suppressed. It made me feel awesome that these individuals felt a sense of relief after sharing the things they did.

....A sense of relief is what I need.

The other day I took a lunch break from work and decided to take a walk instead of the usual eating out. It was a beautiful day anyway and I needed time alone. As I began walking around campus I started asking myself,"Have I been taking care of you?"and "Is there 'unfinished business' that I still have suppressed inside that's making me feel incomplete?" As I was walking I couldn't help but ponder that during this time I've been helping others I've been also neglecting myself. To be honest it's hard to look at yourself and see all these imperfections when the world sees you as someone else; it's the hardest thing to admit "I need help" when the world thinks your stable. Physically I'm a strong person, but mentally I'm so weak.

As these thoughts started penetrating through my mind I began to feel a little anxious. I like when I get a little anxiety though because I get things done. I began walking towards the Counseling and Psychological Center that's on the campus I work for and finally I walked-in. Finally I arrived to a place where I felt safe and secure to let all that was suppressed in me, spew out.

Walking the Red Road

Since I've entered the new year many people have been asking me," Priscilla, what's your new year resolution?" Honestly? Why make false promises to myself so I tell them, "I don't have any. It's difficult to maintain a goal the entire year when life is so unexpected and full of surprises."

What I do know is that this year I want to "Walk the Red Road." Walking the Red Road is a Native American saying that my college professor taught me years ago. When he explained the meaning to the class, I heard it, but I didn't absorb the true meaning. Now, with the experiences that I have endured I can truly embrace the meaning and appreciate it.

"To walk the Red Road is to know sacrifice, suffering. It is to understand humility. It is the ability to stand naked before the Creator in all things for your wrong doings, for your lack of strength, for your uncompassionate way, for your arrogance - because to walk the Red Road, you always know you can do better. And you know, when you do good things, it is through the Creator, and you are grateful...

To Walk the Red Road, you have less fear of being wrong, because you know that life is a journey, a continuous circle, a sacred Hoop. Mistakes will be made, and mistakes can be corrected - if you will be humble, for if you cannot be humble, you will never know when you have made a mistake. If you walk the Red Road, you know that every sorrow leads to a better understanding, every horror cannot be explained, but can offer growth....

To Walk the Red Road is to look for beauty in all things..."

Venting...

I have to vent a little bit... It's already been months since I last went to the gym. I occasionally run around the park and lift weights at home but that doesn't break a sweat outta me as if I were at the gym. Lately I've been having so much back pain, knee pain, and hip pain- I swear to you I feel like a Senior Citizen...

Man, I remember when the gym was my life; I ran 5 miles on the treadmill, lifted weights for an hour, attended my kickboxing classes and I felt so damn good afterwards. It was the greatest feeling to know that I was healthy and staying in shape.

In April I was diagnosed with diabetes. It killed me when I found out, because I'd exercise on a daily basis to prevent any health issues from occurring... Apparently I got hit with a disease that's most prevelant in my Dad's side of the family. One would think that after I found out about my diagnosis I'd be eager to exercise and more health conscious but, NOPE...

For those who read my previous blogs know about my past eating disorder which also lead to the compulsive exercising behavior. And now I'm feeling the effects from it.

I wish I could still maintain that drive and motivation to just drop everything and go to the gym as I used to.... I feel a little embarrassed and guilty for writing this when I could be using this time to go to the gym- maybe I still can. I'm just not as quick with all these aches in my body...

::sigh:: I just need to stop being so NEGATIVE and be like NIKE and just DO IT! ;)

Thanks for listening!

Holiday Spirit

The other day I went to PetSmart in Whittier, CA and found out that SANTA CLAUSE was going to be there to take pictures with owners and their pets for Christmas! I had to bring Sharpie because a few weeks ago I bought him the cutest little Santa collar (the one he's wearing in this photo). Unfortanutely I don't have the picture yet, so this one will have to do. :)

Oh and if you noticed the plain Christmas tree, you can thank Sharpie for that. Yes, he jumped on that tree, smashed the bulbs and broke all my pretty ornaments....bad-bad kitty. If I was Santa I'd put COAL in his stocking! haha
Not only did he break the ornaments, but I have a hunch that he's sneaking into his Christmas stocking that's stuffed full with toys!

Does anyone else have a pet like this?!? lol :)

Finals are officially OVER

Thank God Finals are over! I seriously feel like this cartoon character just wanting to run away from books, pens and everything! Don't get me wrong, I love what I'm going to school for, but sometimes you just need a break.

This semester a lot has happend. I can truly say that I learned a lot about my character. During this time I've been able to think a lot more about me and my future plans then ever before. When I was in my relationship I was constantly thinking of just the relationship. I know it wasn't healthy, but hey I learned from it and I know now that I need to have more of a balance with anything that comes my way.

My friends are applying to grad schools this semester and by seeing how stressed out they are I'm glad that I decided to take a year off. This year gives me time to raise my GPA, do more volunteer work, travel, have some fun, and do things for myself. Although I'm pleased with my decision, I commend all who directly go into grad school right after there bachelors.

I'm just so relieved that it's over for this semseter. Good luck to anyone else taking finals! :)

It's the most wonderful time of the year...

The month of December has always been my favorite time of the year. Don't you notice that in December everyone is more nice to you than any other season? All the store clerks are just wearing their holiday smiles and wishing everyone a Merry Christmas. That's what this season is about anyway... No one wants to come across a Mr. Scrooge.

I don't know if you remember watching the classic Mickey's Christmas Carol, but I just turned that on the other night with my grandparents and it was a pleasant suprise to remember watching this film when I was about oh 4-5 yrs old. It has a good moral to the story in my opinion.
This month has always been my time to give and give endlessly, but sadly this season I'm so broke and funds are limited... so something that I might do that I haven't done in a while is give my time to charities. I want to help feed the homeless, visit the orphanages, and give the kids some TLC (tender, love and care) during this Christmas season. I'm so excited to see how that plays out... I'll definitely keep you posted.
